Unfortunately, today's debate about marijuana is falsely dichotomized
as a choice between "legalization or incarceration." We at Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM) reject that comparison, and so do the leaders and organizations listed here. They represent all political backgrounds and ideologies. Some may agree with the limited use of marijuana and its components for the truly seriously ill, but they are united by one fact: They are, clearly, "not for pot." They don't want to see the next Big Tobacco emerge via legalization. Nor do we. We want a smarter approach to marijuana policy.
"If we're talking about pot, I'm not for the legalization of pot. I think that would just encourage especially our young people to think that it was OK to just go ahead and use it."
